Salute 2015 – Part One

Posted: April 26, 2015 in Uncategorized

wish I was here …..?? I’m sure my wallet didn’t..

I received this kit as a present last Christmas and finally I’ve started it. I have wanted to build one of these since I first saw the vehicle in the film “the dirty dozen”. There are many fine examples of the model on the web in many different paint schemes. I’m currently leaning toward a desert paint job but that may change.

I’ve put the Maybach HL108 engine together. There is some fine detail on this section of the kit.

Quarter 1 update.

Well I had hoped to update more frequently but that didn’t happen, ah well. Dreadball gaming continues, although we haven’t played for a week or two we are both enjoying it. I think this one will continue for a while, especially as Carl made a shrewd investment in the kickstarter and there are still lots of goodies to come, Season 2 teams, more MVP’s and so on.

I have made a start on my Flames of War – Open Fire! set. I have the US paratroopers painted and a base colour on the German panzergrenadiers. On the armour side, the Stugs are base painted and the Shermans are progressing nicely. Progress can be seen here.

Carl has been busy painting Dreadball teams (4 to my 1) so he has only just started working on his FoW set. He has already got his Shermans looking great and now he is about to weather them. Have a look at them here.

….and we’re off !

So, here we are not half way through January and Carl and I have had our first game of 2013. It was a game of Dreadball.

I played with the Trontek 29’ers team that Carl gave me for my last birthday and he fielded his Greenmoon smackers.

This was the first game for both of us so we weren’t expecting it to go smoothly. It turned out a lot better than expected. The rules are very user-friendly.

Carl’s match report can be read here. So, our gaming is off to a good start for 2013. Let’s hope it continues to go well.

’til next time, happy gaming to all,

It’s the start of a new year and I have decided not to make any predictions for how my painting and gaming will progress because I invariably fall way short. Sufficed to say, I am determined to pick up the pace over last year’s efforts.

I still have lots of Lord of The Rings models to paint (warriors and Riders of Rohan as well as Orcs). I love the models and playing the strategy battle game so I expect to keep this side of things ticking over this year.

Christmas brought some new bits and pieces to keep me interested. I received a Tamiya 1/35 scale German 18 Ton Half Track kit (Sd.Kfz.9). The “Famo” is a model that caught my eye a long time ago and I’m looking forward to building it.

I also got the Open Fire box set of Flames of War. Carl picked some of these models during last year to see what they looked like. We both thought we needed to play more rather than just assemble and paint models so I took the opportunity to acquire the box set. The armour and artillery pieces are assembled and primed and I shall be clipping the troops off the sprue this evening.

My birthday present last year from Carl was a Dreadball team, the Trontek 29ers. I’ve got these guys primed up and ready to go.

So, watch this space. My output online is directly related to my output at the hobby desk so hopefully you will be hearing from me more often.

Happy painting/gaming in the new year.

Out of the East…

The warriors of Harad get their first taste of battle this weekend.I should have finished painting these guys a long time ago but  the lure of computer gaming and my own lack of willpower conspired to keep them on the shelf.

Note to self: Must paint more !! Practice makes perfect (or as near to it as I’m likely to get).

Game update to follow.  Have a good one.
